1-Day Trend Research meets Design Thinking Course
(English spoken) Trend research is a powerful method to detect change at an early stage. Fusing trend research with design thinking creates a great combination to kickstart innovation that taps into emerging needs & wants of people instead of only current needs. This hands-on, interactive 1-day course will give you an understanding of Trend Research principles, methods & tools. Working in teams, you will practice spotting signs of change, analysing what lies underneath and applying your trend insights within the Design Thinking process. The focus of this course will be on learning-by-doing.
NB: this is not a course that explains the Design Thinking process in-depth, we assume you already have a basic understanding of this process and its tools, such as a persona and customer journey mapping.
We will start with an introduction into Trend Research. What it is, why we (should) do it, when and how. We will discuss the trend research cycle which includes three steps: scan, analyse and apply. The introduction is interactive and includes hands-on exercises.
The second part of the course will focus on conducting qualitative trend research. You will be provided with tips on spotting signs of change and interviewing innovators, then go out in groups to put this into practice. This will be followed by practicing trend analysis and applying your trend insights in Design Thinking tools, such as creating a frontrunner persona.
WHAT WILL YOU GET OUT OF THIS ONE-DAY TRAINING?
An understanding of Trend Research principles, methods & tools, the trend research process, and where Trend Research fits into Design Thinking. An understanding of the value of trend research within innovation processes.
Hands-on introduction to conducting qualitative trend field research: spotting trends, interviewing innovators, trend analysis and making “trendslations”.The facilitator will guide you on the different activities during the Trend Research Training.
Els Dragt, is a trend researcher with over fifteen years of experience in spotting and analysing seeds of change. She has worked at several agencies and for various (inter)national clients, ranging from non-profit to commercial ones such as Viacom, ABN AMRO, Nike and the Dutch Ministry of General Affairs. As a lecturer she shares her trend expertise with future trend professionals, her students at Fontys Academy for Creative Industries.
Jeroen van der Weide, is a senior facilitator stimulating creative leadership within corporate environments to find new solutions for business problems by designing and facilitating creative processes through Design Thinking.
Our main objective is to provide you with hands-on tools that you can use immediately the next day in your working environment.
Besides the training program you will be handed out a toolkit, certificate and access to the DT Academy Network virtual environment.
The end result is aimed at a transformation of the participants, knowledge of tools and methods, a deep understanding of the value of design, and professional & personal growth.
