This Online Design Thinking for Creative Leadership training course is designed to support individuals and teams who need to find new and creative ways to solve problems.
Creativity is the ability to generate novel and useful ideas, while innovation is the successful implementation of creative ideas.
The program supports individuals and teams who are looking for opportunities to open up new ways for Creative Problem Solving. Assisting with methods to collaborate online, in the cloud, the program ensures creative engagement with dynamic learning material. This Creative Leadership program provides tools and builds the capabilities that help individuals and teams drive innovation and customer-centred solutions.
STRUCTURE OF THE ONLINE DESIGN THINKING FOR CREATIVE LEADERSHIP TRAINING
8 online sessions of 3 hours hours each over 6 weeks
A minimum of 3 hours required between session to research, collaborate and use the tools.
A series of pre-work videos and material to go through in prep for the course.
MAIN OUTCOMES OF THE ONLINE DESIGN FOR CREATIVE LEADERSHIP TRAINING
First, it will develop the creative confidence of anyone who wants to take the lead using creative problem-solving methods. Key capabilities and tools for creative problem solving are covered.
Second, it will assist in building a radically collaborative approach to creative problem solving, building on an empathic and creative multi-disciplinary approach to value generation.
Third, building on creative problem solving capabilities, the participant will learn to influence team members, using empathy, visual thinking, sensemaking, storytelling and prototyping to craft novel, innovative concepts that assist in customer-focused problem solving.
Lastly, it will support people who are working in distributed teams to explore new ways of working that enable more customer-centred behaviour when working online or when working remotely.
DEVELOPING CREATIVE CONFIDENCE DURING THE DESIGN THINKING FOR CREATIVE LEADERSHIP TRAINING
Creative confidence is the ability to take creative leaps and develop new concepts by making links between seemingly disconnected elements
Through Learning by Doing participants will develop their ability in the following:
- Sensemaking: Using synthesis to make sense of complexity and identifying patterns and interrelationships
- Empathy: Making sense of customers diverse needs and pain points using cognitive and compassionate empathy
- Complex problem solving: Navigating ambiguity by mapping systemic challenges to define user-centred opportunities
- Iteration: Improving concepts and understanding by testing newly developed prototypes with customers
- Visual Thinking: Crafting visual artefacts to identify patterns, generate insights and discover opportunities
THEORY and PRACTICAL
Over the course of 8 webinars, this Online Design Thinking for Creative Leadership training will generate an understanding of the theory and disciplines related to design thinking. Each session will combine some theory and some practice, using online tools that support integrating Design Thinking (Creative Problem Solving) principles and mindsets into behaviour.
During the Online Design Thinking for Creative Leadership training, we will go through a series of short and interactive sessions introducing the framework, mindsets, principles and tools of Design Thinking. We will cover what it is, where does it come from and why now? What are the challenges? What are the main ‘Schools of Thought’ within Design Thinking? We will also cover the key online tools that support a Design Thinking environment as well as some case studies.
‘LEARNING BY DOING’
The major part of the Online Design Thinking for Creative Leadership training, however, will be spent doing hands-on work on a case using the different online and paper-based tools. It will involve ‘learning by doing’ and include a focus on identifying customer needs through insights. This approach also embraces the customers Job-to-be-done, while empathising with the customer’s needs and emotions.
In between classes you will be required to complete “homework” by doing research, sharing information online with your fellow participants and diving into the use of the tools.
This will support your understanding on how to work remotely in teams as well as enable a customer-oriented mindset given the social distancing scenario.
FACILITATOR AND GUESTSPEAKERS
Robert Bloom, is a senior facilitator focused on stimulating creative leadership and innovation ecosystems within organisational environments. Robert strives to help organisations find new opportunities, strategies and mechanisms that drive market leadership and sustainable transformation, to disrupt by adding value to society and to those around you. Robert is the founding partner of DesignThinkers Group and DesignThinkers Academy South Africa
Colin Skelton will be your creative thinking guide. Drawing on practices and techniques from performance and theatre traditions around the world, he will introduce various activated ways of harvesting, exploring and engaging with research data as it relates to empathy and new concept development. Colin has led and facilitated creative workshops in South Africa and abroad for over 20 years.
Jani De Kok will be your research guide, Janie has over 20 years of qualitative research experience, practiced in the art of listening to and interpreting user information.
