Course Description

1-Day Scenario Planning for Innovation Strategy (Certificate) *AI Included

The future rarely follows one straight line. New technologies, changing customer behaviour, regulation, economic shifts and societal developments interact in ways that make long-term planning increasingly difficult.

This 1-Day Scenario Planning for Innovation Strategy course gives you a practical approach to navigating this uncertainty. Instead of trying to predict one future, you will learn how to explore multiple plausible future scenarios, understand the systems and forces shaping them, and use these scenarios to make stronger strategic and innovation decisions today.

Combining Scenario Planning, Strategic Foresight and Systems Thinking, you will work with trends, drivers of change and uncertainties to understand how different developments may interact. You will then translate these insights into alternative future scenarios and explore what each could mean for your organisation, strategy, products or services.

Throughout the course, AI is used as a practical co-pilot to accelerate trend research, consolidate information, explore connections between developments, generate and challenge scenarios, and identify potential opportunity areas.

You do not need any prior experience with Futures Thinking, Systems Thinking or AI. We will guide you through the process step by step.

Tailor-made coaching around your challenge

What is this course about?

Most strategies are built around assumptions about how the future will develop. But when multiple factors change at the same time, relying on a single forecast can leave organisations unprepared.

Scenario Planning helps you think in alternatives. Rather than asking “What will happen?”, you learn to ask: “What different futures could emerge, what would they mean for us, and how should we prepare?” During this hands-on course, you will learn how to identify important trends, signals, drivers of change and critical uncertainties and explore how they interact as part of a wider system. You will use these insights to build a set of plausible scenarios, from expected developments to more extreme possibilities. You will then stress-test strategic assumptions, identify opportunities and risks, and determine which actions make sense across different futures.

By the end of the day, you will know how to:

  1. Identify the trends, drivers and uncertainties shaping your future;
  2. Build plausible future scenarios using Systems Thinking and AI;
  3. Translate scenarios into strategic opportunities, choices and actions.

What will you learn in this course?

By the end of this training, you will know how to use Scenario Planning as a practical tool for innovation strategy and strategic decision-making. You will learn how to move beyond linear forecasting, explore multiple possible futures and translate uncertainty into concrete strategic opportunities.

Explore Trends & Drivers

Identify relevant trends, emerging signals and drivers of change shaping your organisation, market or challenge. Learn how to distinguish between developments that are relatively predictable and those that could significantly influence how the future unfolds.

Understand Systems & Uncertainty

Use Systems Thinking to explore how technological, economic, social, environmental and behavioural factors interact. Map connections, dependencies and critical uncertainties to understand how different forces may combine over time.

Build Future Scenarios with AI

Create distinct and plausible future scenarios by combining trends, drivers and uncertainties. Use Generative AI to accelerate research, consolidate information, challenge assumptions and explore alternative and more extreme futures.

Translate Scenarios into Strategy

Stress-test existing assumptions, strategies, products or services against different future scenarios. Identify emerging risks, opportunity areas and strategic options, and define actions that can help your organisation stay adaptable across multiple possible futures.
