Course Description

Online Design Thinking Facilitation Course – April 2021

April 6 – 16, 2021

You may be someone who has had basic Design Thinking training, you may know case studies of how Design Thinking has been used in the workplace, and you may even use the Design Thinking methodology in your own work. If any of these describe you, then you may be ready for the next step: getting hands-on practice designing and facilitating sessions using Design Thinking.

Through our DT Facilitation Course, you will learn how to facilitate Design Thinking sessions and how to design highly collaborative workshops that get the desired outcomes. Facilitation requires a unique set of skills – a specialized set of mental muscles – that you need to stretch and develop. This course will help you develop those muscles.

You will get a ‘learning-by-doing’ experience in five, three-hour LIVE-ONLINE workshops on April 6, 8, 12, 14, & 16th. You will also have a personal online coaching session following the completion of the course, to follow up on any questions or challenges you may be facing in your facilitation work.

As a prerequisite for this course, you must have some Design Thinking training as the majority of the curriculum in the workshop will be focused on how to design and facilitate Design Thinking sessions and not about learning the basics of the methodology itself.

  • Learn how to facilitate a design thinking session in both an online and in-person setting;
  • Understand how to engage participants, maintain energy levels, and create an interactive learning environment;
  • Become confident in facilitating groups or teams in meetings and workshops;
  • Reinforce your mastery of the design thinking methodology and tools to help teams solve design challenges;
  • Troubleshoot problems as they arise in a workshop facilitation setting;
  • Gain hands-on experience facilitating a design thinking workshop with your peers.

We believe that experience is the best teacher. That is why our approach for this course is hands-on, ‘Learning by Doing.’ You will connect to your instructors and fellow participants through the Zoom video conferencing application, and learn to use a set of tools that are foundational to the Design Thinking methodology using the virtual whiteboard application MURAL.

Online learning offers many advantages, but it can be exhausting to stare at a screen continuously for hours on end. This course has been carefully designed to optimize learning and minimize fatigue. This format has been honed over months of live experimentation and leverages best practices from leading online education institutions including our 13 global DT Academy teams.
